"DRINKING ALONE BY MOONLIGHT

A pot of wine among the flowers.

I drink alone, no comrades near.

I raise my cup to invite the moon;

my shadow joins, and we're three here.

Though the moon can't drink, I understand,

my shadow only mimics my hand,

I'll revel now in their company,

and merry be while spring remains.

I sing, the moon wanders to and fro;

I dance, my shadow scatters below.

While sober, we're glad to entwine;

drunk, each shall wander on their own line.

Forever bound in a friendship so free,

we'll meet again in the starry sea."
